Greetings from Kentucky! I’m Abby, a follower of Christ, a wife to Mark, and a mother to our four boys. When I’m not busy stepping on Legos, I’m homeschooling, cooking, or envisioning a way to organize a space. Life at our house is busy, loud, and someone is always hungry, but I love our version of family.
From the time I was a little girl I looked forward to the day I would become a mama. I still view this as the best and most important work of my life. But those early days spent balancing the responsibilities of working outside the home, managing a household and caring for our growing family were hard.
Six years in to my career as a mother, I quit my job as a nurse working in the area of early childhood development, to be a stay-at-home mom. While this was a blessing, I felt like I was starting all over. I felt overwhelmed and anxious. I gradually realized I was over complicating the process; stressing myself over unimportant things. Our house was overflowing with toys, clothes, and baby gear. I wandered around the grocery store (often multiple times a week) with no list and no menu. We had a budget in mind, but we needed to be more specific and purposeful in our spending.
Slowly, and with the help of some wonderful mentors, I made changes that increased my confidence as a mother and decreased my stress level. I realized that simplicity is key. Children thrive with routine. My days run smoother when I plan our meals and budget in advance. I am able to relax and really be present when our home is organized and functional.
My goal with The Mentored Mom is to help you have confidence in your abilities as a mother, while sharing practical tips for managing your household well.
